Dear Cherry Lover!
Exciting news – there is less than a month to go until the 2017 cherry harvest is underway. We expect to open around Saturday 8th July at the farm shop, but please check our website and twitter feed (@englishcherry) for exact dates and times.
The cherry trees enjoyed plenty of chill hours over the winter (over double compared to the year before) and buds mobilised early due to a mild spring. This year our blossom was out 3 weeks earlier than in 2016! Unfortunately the cold snap in mid-April frosted a large number of fruitlets on our younger orchard, but the orchard that has plastic covers fared much better. Those who attended the blossom walk might have witnessed some frantic pulling out of plastic covers, which was just in the nick of time…!
Where are we selling?
In addition to selling our beautiful cherries online, we expect to be selling at all of our usual outlets this year:
- The Farm Shop (Aspley Guise) (see note below re road closure)
- Woburn to Woburn Sands layby
- Bow Brickhill layby
- Ampthill lay-by A507 (near Do-little yard)
- A421 (roundabout before Little Horwood)
- Bedford A428 – just off the A421 at ASDA distribution centre going towards Bromham
- Milton Keynes railway station (Monday to Friday)
For exact opening times, please check the website here. Please note all of our cherries are sold ready picked (we are not a ‘pick-your-own’ farm).
Gift boxes of cherries
We are also pleased to announce that we will be sending out our beautiful gift boxes of cherries by next day courier delivery again this year. The cherries are picked, packed and dispatched within just a few hours and reach your door 24 hours later in super fresh condition. If you are fed up with dull tasteless supermarket cherries, treat yourself to some amazingly sweet, crisp and fresh cherries and pat yourself on the back that you are supporting both a family business and British farming!
We have a number of clients who send our gift boxes out as corporate gifts. So much more memorable than a pen, calendar or box of chocolates… Our corporate clients receive great feedback from their recipients.
We are looking forward to welcoming customers old and new to our farm and outlets. We so appreciate the fantastic local and national support that we receive!
See you soon!
Best wishes, Liz, Rupert, Angie and Charlie
PS… It would not be the cherry season without a road closure…. Lower End Road (from Wavendon past Wavendon Golf Club) will be closed so instead, carry on into Woburn Sands turning left before the railway station, then pick up the signs to the farm from there.
